Makeup and beauty mishaps are real. Your eyes, skin, and hair are not a car door — the damage is often permanent.
- • Patch test 24 hours first. Put any new product on a small patch of skin (inner arm) a day before it goes near your face. Cosmetic allergies are common and can be severe.
- • Nothing goes IN your eye. Scratched corneas from mascara wands and liner pencils are the most common makeup injury. Never use a product near your eye that is not sold for the eye area.
- • Lash and wig adhesive only. Never super glue, nail glue, or any household adhesive on skin, lashes, or scalp. These cause chemical burns and have sealed eyes shut.
- • No product substitutes. Hair spray, spray adhesive, and construction glue are not cosmetics. People have been hospitalized following internet beauty hacks.
- • Sharp tools cut and infect. Dermaplaning blades, cuticle nippers, and tweezers need clean hands and clean tools. Do not share them.
- • Chemicals burn. Dye, bleach, relaxers, peels, and removers: follow the manufacturer’s timing exactly, ventilate the room, and never mix two products.
- • Old and shared makeup carries bacteria. Do not share eye or lip products, and replace mascara every three months.
- • If it stings, burns, swells, or your vision changes — stop. Rinse with cool water and get medical help. Do not push through it.

๐งฐ Required Tools & Equipment
- โ Small soaking bowl
- โ Wooden cuticle stick
- โ Soft nail buffer block
- โ Hand towel
๐ฆ Materials & Supplies
- โ Warm water
- โ Liquid hand soap or dish soap
- โ Cuticle oil
- โ Hand moisturizer
โ ๏ธ Safety Checkpoints & Warnings
- โข Never rip or pry nails off with force, which tears natural keratin layers.
- โข Ensure soak water is pleasantly warm, not scalding to sensitive fingertips.
- โข Stop immediately and re-soak if lifting causes any sharp pain or resistance.
๐ Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)
Mix Warm Soaking Bath
Fill a small bowl with warm water. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of liquid soap and 5 to 10 drops of cuticle oil, then stir with the cuticle stick until cloudy and sudsy.
- โข Bowl is half-full of cloudy, soapy water with a visible oily sheen on top.
- โข Using cold water which fails to soften the adhesive
- โข Skipping the oil in the water mixture
Apply Cuticle Oil to Nail Edges
Apply a generous drop of cuticle oil directly along the base and sidewalls of each press-on nail. Massage the oil into the seam where the artificial nail meets your natural nail cuticle.
- โข Glossy oil visible along the entire perimeter seam of all ten press-on nails.
- โข Applying oil only to the top surface of the press-on instead of the perimeter edge
Submerge Fingertips in the Soak
Place both hands in the warm soapy oil bath, keeping all fingernails fully submerged. Let fingertips soak undisturbed for 10 to 15 minutes to dissolve the adhesive bond.
- โข All ten nails completely immersed below the waterline for the full duration.
- โข Removing fingers after only 2-3 minutes before the adhesive softens
- โข Letting fingers float out of the water
Wiggle and Loosen Edges
While fingers are still damp, insert the beveled flat edge of the wooden stick gently under the side edge of a press-on nail. Gently wiggle back and forth to create space without lifting upward with force.
- โข Cuticle stick slides slightly under the side border with visible gap formation.
- โข Prying straight up from the tip rather than wiggling from the side edges
- โข Using metal tools that can scrape natural nail layers
Slide Off the Artificial Nails
Once the adhesive gives way, gently nudge the press-on nail forward until it slides completely off the natural nail. Repeat for each finger, re-soaking any stubborn nails for an additional 3 to 5 minutes.
- โข Natural nails fully bare; removed press-on nails resting on the towel intact.
- โข Ripping stubborn nails off when 8 out of 10 have come off easily
Clean Glue Residue and Rehydrate
Use a soft buffer block to gently buff away any remaining glue patches using light, circular motions. Wash hands thoroughly and massage a liberal amount of cuticle oil or hand cream into natural nails and cuticles.
- โข Smooth, clean natural nail surfaces with a hydrated, shiny finish across all cuticles.
- โข Aggressively filing natural nail with a coarse grit file instead of a soft buffer
- โข Skipping post-removal hydration
